Centerfold is a scrapbook collaboration that was started originally in 2003 by artist Reza Aramesh. Over 10 editions, Centrefold has gathered many of London’s leading artists to contribute to the physical book, including Paul Noble (represented by Gagosian Gallery), Ellen Cantor, Francis Upritchard, who represented New Zealand at the 2009 Venice Biennale, and the 2008 Turner Prize nominee Goshka Macuga.
The original Centrefold sits in the tradition of collage, montage and papier collé. In the words of Aramesh: “Scrapbook takes its cue from the childhood fascination for collecting and collating, the improvised cutting and pasting through which a constellation of interests and desires are brought together. A group show in its own right.”
For the 11th edition, entitled “Sleeping Rough”, Reza Aramesh and Luca Asta are turning the scrapbook project into digital form for the first time. Centrefold will be minted as an NFT and featured on the curated platform Verse.Works.
Botto contributed to this breakthrough edition by providing six unminted artworks that the Centrefold team has added to the last issue. The Botto community created an alternative voting pool, populated by the most voted discards, in a search for those hidden gems deserving of a second chance. The perfect fit for a scrapbook.
Centrefold Scrapbooks are held in private and public collections nationally and internationally, including TATE, A-Foundation, Philip Aarons, and Zabludowicz Collection.
Issue 11 (NFT issue titled ‘Sleeping Rough’) includes the works of: Andisheh Avini, Anne Ryan, Botto, Goshka Macuga, John Robinson, Katy Moran, Salman Khoshroo, Reza Aramesh, Luca Asta
